July 10
The 19th Elmore Practice Triathlon season wrapped up as storms moved away and the sun appeared with a rainbow over the lake. Thirty-two athletes, including at least 6 first time triathletes, enjoyed mostly dry pavement and relatively calm water while nearby parts of VT were under flood warnings from thunderstorms.
Lance Parker broke his own course record for the 2nd time, winning in a PR of 45:11, completing his 3-peat that included a new CR each week! First time triathlete, Erik Linseisen, with a stellar swim time of 5:01, finished 2nd OA in 51:04, to meet his goal of beating the time of 51:19 that his younger brother Anders did in 2024. Maybe we can see a head to head Linseisen competition in 2026? Emma Duffany and Joyce Holsten traded places from the June 12 event as Emma improved her bike time by nearly 3 minutes to take the win in 55:52. Katie Hulbert also dramatically improved her bike time to win the Aquabike event as she was 2nd F, between Emma and Joyce off of the bike. Jakobi Kmiecik repeated her June 12 win of the Aquathlon, taking over 2.5 minutes off of her run and finish time.
Once again thank you very much to the volunteers. Emmy Maas and Michaela Stickney provided great timing. Katie Costello was a helpful lifeguard in the kayak. Eric Ryea kept people on course and safe at the bike turnaround. Thanks also to volunteers Lisa Maiocco, Woody Clifton, Pam Sills, Ryan Hulbert (for picking up the pizza!), and photographers Steve Maas and Stephen Brown. If you haven’t seen Steve Maas’s photos from the 1st 2 events, check these out from June 12 and these from June 26. Here are some photos from Stephen Brown from July 10 and another fantastic album from Steve Maas!
Congratulations again to all triathletes on another fun season!
June 26
26 Triathletes were treated to some of the best weather conditions the Elmore Triathlon series has ever presented. Flat 76 degree water, no wind and pleasant temperatures on the bike and run led to some fast times! Lance Parker broke his own course record, taking the win in 45:20 and Joyce Holsten also repeated as the winner finishing 4th OA in a time of 56:47, more than a minute faster than on June 12!
10 year old Brett Bailey completed his first Aquathlon while 13 year old Atticus Bailey took nearly 2 minutes off of his Youth Triathlon distance time from last year. Promoting youth triathlon has been one of the main purposes of the Elmore Series over the years and I hope to see more youth join in on July 10.
Thank you to volunteers Katrina Antonovich, Dot and John Martin, Steve Maas, Dave and Pam Sills, and Eric Ryea! As always, the race cannot happen without volunteers.
June 12
31 Triathletes kicked off the 2025 Elmore season on a cool and breezy evening. The evening started with the pink piggy freeing itself from its anchor and drifting across to the other shore, necessitating a last minute adjustment to the swim course which may have ended up slightly short, but pretty close to the expected distance in the chilly 64 degree water.
Lance Parker continued his winning ways from 2024, setting a PR in 45:51, just breaking Darby Thomas’s 2011 course record by 1 second! Joyce Holsten and Emma Duffany both broke the tough 1 hour barrier, with Joyce taking the win in 58:07 after a super fast bike split.
We welcomed many first time youth triathletes, headed up by Noah Amore with a 1:01:14, placing 7th OA, just ahead of 10 year Elmore veteran Ben Kidder who finished with the same time based on the wave starts. In true Elmore Practice spirit, there were also finishers in Aquabike, Aquathlon, Duathlon, and modified swim or bike legs.
Green Mountain Multisport Club added to the festivities with refreshments and an opportunity to learn more about Vermont’s premier triathlon club. Green Mountain Community Fitness Endurance Team helped with volunteers and photography. Thank you Steve Maas for a fantastic photo album of the evening!
As always, thank you to the volunteers who did a fantastic job of keeping athletes safe and getting accurate times on a chilly evening. The events would not be possible without their help. Thank you to Dot Helling, Michaela Stickney, Katie Costello, John Martin, Dave Sills, Ryan Hulbert, Steve Maas and John Bonneville!
