The final 2009 Elmore Practice Series Triathlon was marked by an exciting swim directly into a pretty fierce chop. People who were not comfortable completing the swim continued with the bike and run portion. At least the rain held off to allow a dry finish and picnic. Thanks to all, who helped with the picnic set up--especially Luke Moore for bringing the grill and assuming the grillmaster role. Also thanks to Green Mountain Multisport’s sponsor, Magic Hat for supplying a case of delicious Magic Hat beers for the picnic.
In 2009, a total of 46 triathletes, including many first timers and 2 youth racers, participated in the series. Our largest race was July 9, with 28 participants, the smallest was 17 participants in cold rainy weather, June 11. Luke Moore and Thorin Markison split the OA Male wins with 2 apiece, but Luke gets the consistency award for winning the last 2 with the exact same time of 48:21. The women spread out the wins with Jessica Gerhart, Donna Smyers, Karyn Alman, and Alison Dydo taking one each. A hardy 6 competitors participated in all 4 races this year including Karen and Mark Bates, Megan Kruso, Jay Nickerson, Johanna Wilnauer, and Katey Wisse. Ages ranged from 14 to 60.
I hope that we will continue with the series next year and that the promised Route 12 2010 paving project benefits us early in the year. Good luck to all with the remaining 2009 season and see you next year at Elmore.
